Canyonlands

I like standing on the heights in the Canyonlands, the danger zone, where lightning strikes often, and hard. Where there is no shelter from the wind. Where the thunder seems to come not only from all around, but from within. The heights are where you see most clearly, in every direction. The place where you find balance, or you fall to your death. They are elemental. They are built for creatures of air. On the heights, between you and every landmark is the descent through stark rock walls, shale, and sand; dry except when the rains bring flash floods; deeper than imagination. The Canyonlands are the incubator of the soul, and where we go to bleach our bones.
